Gallery: Barcelona

We were in Barcelona for the 2026 Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix, so we spent most of our time at the track in Montmelo. But we still managed to get plenty of time with the city! Barcelona is absolutely beautiful, with a unique 'block by block' layout that makes it easy to navigate as a pedestrian just as soon as you notice it. I love the abundance of trees on the pavements and that the city has way more graffiti than it has advertisements on billboards. Even the underground metro is refreshingly devoid of advertising, with colourful graffiti on the walls and even on some of the trains themselves. We learnt a few words in Spanish to communicate with shop owners although everyone seems to also speak English well, but you don't really want to be an obnoxious tourist who doesn't try. Maybe it was because all the tourists at the moment were just here to watch F1, there weren't a lot of tourists in the city except in the immediate vicinity of the Sagrada Familia and lining up to see the inside of Casa Batlo one morning. The Grand Prix experience was incredible even if we were baking in the sun during the hottest part of the day and racked up a count of blisters under our feet from all the walking we had to do inside and around the track. It also just so happened to be an incredible race for a George and Lewis fan, with George on pole and then P2, and Lewis's historic first win in red. You can imagine I was quite happy with these outcomes.
